While an Audio Production degree would be nice to have on your resume the fact of that matter is you do not need a degree to be successful. The most important tool you will need and indeed the skill you will call on the most, is actually your creativity. While you learn how to be a successful music producer, your ability to store valuable information may be worth more to you than a piece of paper in your resume. If you are passionate about the art of making music you have just as much change to make it as the rest of us.


The magic of the internet means all the information you need to learn about making music is readily available more than ever before. No matter what software program you are interested in mastering the information and tutorials you need to get started are right here for you to learn. When I got started making my own music I tried several software programs but I found that I had more success when I decided to learn everything I could about one program and concentrate on that. That program for me was Fl Studio but this is a personal preference and does not mean that this program is superior in any way to what ever program you choose. I had my success on Fl Studio but you may master any program. The point here is once you choose your program and learn everything you can about it, then you do not need a degree to make a success of your music.


When I look back to when I began I can recall nearly throwing in the towel on several occasions. I was very frustrated as I believe I was trying to master various programs at the same time. Thankfully I decided to stick with one program and give it a chance. Ok I guess I should mention that, I am not travelling the world playing the biggest festivals every weekend with a massive entourage drinking bottles of cristal champagne in a stretch limousine ....But Hey, I am capable of making my own music that gives me enormous satisfaction and gives me an avenue to let my creativity run wild.


You can achieve any level of success in the music industry with dedication and creativity. Do not let anyone tell you that you need this qualification or that degree, you simply do not. If you were to pick your top ten dance music acts, you would be surprised to learn how many have an Audio Production degree and how many are actually just normal people like you and I who started small ..... but then made it BIG.

Modern Dj Technology has been introduced with The Sync Button. This button recognises the beats in different tracks and with the touch of a button automatically seamlessly mixes both tracks together.


Be a Real Dj Dont Use Sync sounds harsh but the truth is this debate has gone on for quite some time and does not show signs of slowing down any time soon. Not since Djs switched to mixing Cds rather than Records have we seen such conflict within the Electronic Music Industry. People are being branded Sync Button Loosers for using the sync button and the rest are being branded Technology dinosaurs. What is it about this Nasty Sync Button that causes all this tension ?


The Digital DJing trend has become very popular in recent times and as a result we see many people converting to Dj Controllers and Laptops to perform Dj sets. This technology makes it very easy to create a mix and really become a capable Dj within hours of use. Gone are the days when the only entry into the world of Djing was to purchase a set of Technics turntables and begin the task of learning how to beat match. We can now go out and spend far less money on digital DJ software which can actually mix the tracks for us. This is where the conflict takes place and what has caused this divide. Lets dig into the case for each side of the argument :


The Case FOR using the Sync Button.


With this popular trend of Digital DJing many people who are all for using the Sync Button claim they are only taking advantage of modern technology.These Djs claim that by using the Sync button to do the beatmatching it gives them more time to be creative by adding more sounds, loops and effects on top of the tracks.These Djs also claim that they still have to control every other aspects of being a dj which include crowd reading, track selection, set progression, effects mastering, microphone use etc ...


The Case AGAINST using the Sync Button.


Djs against using the Sync button claim that if a Dj is not actually mixing the tracks then they are simply not a real Dj. This is where they proclaim be a real dj dont use the sync. These Djs make the case for Beatmatching being a fundamental aspect of Djing and one which is paramount. These Djs claim that mixing music is an art and that it is wrong that technology trys to devalue this art. We also hear the claim here that if you are a real Dj you should be able to control and mangage every aspect of being a dj which does include beatmatching.


Where do I stand on this ?


My personal opinion on this would be Against using the Sync button. I would not brand anyone a Sync Button Looser but I do believe to some extent that to be a real dj dont use the sync. I believe that mixing is an art form and every Dj no matter what level should be capable of manually mixing music. The way I see it is that technology is making it easier to become a dj without serving your time in the scene but as a result we are denying people the real joy that comes with Mixing Music. We should not give up where the joy comes from being a Dj. That joy comes from when I cue tracks at the right time and mix them perfectly into one another. Where is the fun in pressing a button to do this ? This is where we are taking a step backwards.


Where is the Talent ?


I believe we are not adding talent to the scene by the use of the Sync button and this is also evident in the amount of Z List celebrities we now see proclaiming they are Djs. Pick up any music magazine these days and you will be surprised who is the new celebrity Dj coming to your area. What you probably wont read though is that you will have to pay double the club entrance fee to see a z-list celebrity pressing buttons and not actually showcasing a Live Performance. What is historically an underground scene is becoming more Commercial every day and as a result we may be denying the scene of real talent more than ever before.

So you want to learn How to Make Dance Music. There are many different methods on how to produce your own music but the truth is there is no perfect method or secret blue print. If there is a secret blue print, well then I cant wait to find it but for now lets be realistic :) In my opinion and from what I have seen during my years in Music Production, you need to persistent and take advantage of any information that comes your way.


I cant tell you the time Ive lost making major adjustments to tracks only to be shown that there is an easier way to make these changes and in far less time. Ive also seen many times where people try to do to much to fast. When I look back to when I started making my own music I cant help but think that I could have saved a lot of time if I was on the right road to begin with. This is why I am now interested in trying to help people get on the right road for their Journey into Music Production. Here is what I believe will help you get started making your music and what I believe will help you get on the right road :

There are many Genres of Dance Music which are all covered by the term EDM (Electronic Dance Music) and the first thing you should decide is which Genre you would like to produce. Ideally this would be your favourite genre which you have knowledge of as this will help make things a lot easier as we go along.


One of the most important steps and the main aspect we will cover today is the arrangement. As the typical track consists of various virtual instruments including drums, bass, synths, vocals etc, we need to decide when and where we would like to introduce all of these sounds which make up our track.


The most popular method for arranging a Dance/House Music track is the building method where we start at the foundation and build up.This Method adds each sound into our Step Sequencer grid in a Building Motion. Lets dig in :


Step 1 : The Beat/Kick Drum.


This first step here is the begin with the Beat/Kick Drum.drum-soundTo decide on which Kick Drum you would like I recommend listening to your favourite tracks and getting an idea of what kick drum will best suit the track you would like to make.There are so many different types of Kick Drums but do not worry if you cannot decide on one right now as we can always go back and change it when we have more of the track complete. At this stage any beat will suit while we “build” the track.


Step 2 : The Percussion.


Next we will add our Percussion sounds to go with percussionthe beat. Percussion sounds consist of snare drums, high hats, claps, treble,tom drums etc. To start your track with a simple 4-to-the-floor groove enter your percussion sounds in the off beat (the space between your kick drum in the step sequencer) and place your Clap sounds on the same line as every second kick drum (in the step sequencer). This is only one option and you should try various different patterns here until you decide which pattern you like the most. While you get started making your music this is a good time to play around with different sounds in the step sequencer but when you advance a little you can add percussion loops to your production for that professional sound.


Step 3 : The Bassline.


This is where our track starts to take shape as we add basslinea catchy bassline. The key to adding a bassline really depends on what type of track you are trying to create. If you are making a very melodic and vocal track you may want to add a bassline with several different notes to conincide with the different melodies and vocals but if you are trying to create for instance a techno track, a flat bassline on one note may suit as this would be more of a repetitive track. Anyway,lets stick with the Dance/House music genre for now. While you choose which bassline sound best suits your track from your sample library it is a good idea to add your bassline to the offbeat (the space between your kick drum in the step sequencer). This way you can hear all the sounds playing together and will make it easier to decide which sounds best fits with your beat and percussion. When you have decided which sound to use for your bassline you should always experiment with different patterns until you are happy with the result.


Step 4: The Synths and Lead Sounds.


When you have your Beats,Percussion and Bassline synthcomplete you now have the foundation of your track. The next step is where your track really gains an identity as you add your main leads and synth patterns. This is where your if you let your creativity flow, you do not neccesarily need the best program for making music to create memorable riffs and professional sounding melodies. So far we have mentioned the need to try different patterns and experiment with different sounds but this is really important when you come to this stage. If you are patient during this process and spend time layering multiple sounds together you will actually be surprised here at what you can achieve.


Step 5 : The Vocals.


The next step here is to add your vocals and effects.vocals As we are covering this method of arrangement building a Dance/House music track,typically the vocals are introduced later in the track but this is by no means standard practice. Remember,this is your music so you can introduce them at any stage you wish to suit your track/Genre. When you progress into music production you can write and record your own lyrics but when you begin producing you have several other easier options. Most of the software programs available to you will cater for this aspect via a vocoder plugin which you can type text and then play back in various voices to create vocals. Alternatively you can also download free vocal samples and experiment with these in your track.


While this is one option for you to arrange and make dance music as mentioned there are other genres and arrangement techniques depending on what track you wish to create.This technique is to help you get started making your tracks and is generally aimed to help people get on the right road.

Topics That I Would Like to See Trending On Twitter

As a frequent Twitter user, I enjoy checking the trending topics. They let me know what people are thinking about and talking about so that I can write articles that many people will want to read. Many of the topics that I have seen have inspired some ideas.


One topic that has trended on Twitter is #SomethingISayALot. This topic got me thinking about expressions that I often use, such as “Better out than in”, which is featured in the Shrek movies. It also made me think of other things that I often say, such as “I need some beauty sleep.” In addition to this topic, I have also seen other topics on Twitter.


Another topic that I saw trending on this popular site is #pens. This topic made me think of Back-to-School season. It also reminded me to stock up on pens, since I often use them for writing if I am away from my computer. There is also one other topic that has trended on Twitter that has helped to break my writer’s block: #IThankGodFor.


When I saw this topic, I thought of everything in my life that I am grateful for. For instance, I am thankful for my family, my friends, and my health. I am also thankful for my house, for the sites that I write for, and for modern conveniences, such as electricity. In addition to the topics that I have seen on this social networking site, there are other topics that I would like to see there.


One thing that I have not yet seen on Twitter is #PinkTickets. Pink is currently touring, and she is scheduled to be in my area in November. I would like to go to this concert, but it is not likely that I will be able to afford tickets. Perhaps my local radio station will hold a contest that will give listeners a chance to win tickets to the show. If this happens, there is a chance that my wish will come true. I will then get to hear some great music. In addition to finding out about concert tickets on Twitter, there are other things that I would like to learn about there, as well.


A second thing that I would like to see there is #WinALaptop. My laptop is still functional. However, according to the technician who looked at it recently, the part that allows it to connect to the Internet is apparently burned out. A new computer would allow me to do everything that I love to do. For instance, I could publish articles online, keep up with my friends’ birthdays and special events, check my email, and listen to my favorite music. It is unlikely that I will ever see a trending topic like this. If I am patient, however, I might eventually get enough money to replace my computer.


By continuing to use Twitter, perhaps I will see some of the topics that I would like to see there. I might also see other topics that I have not even thought of but that I would enjoy. I can then hopefully avoid writer’s block, which will allow me to keep doing what I love.

I have 3 kids, Eric 15, Julie 13, and Chaz 12 and I think they are great kids, but I don’t believe that any of them have fully developed executive functioning. In fact, there are studies that suggest boys may not have a completely matured executive function until the age of 40!


Executive functioning is the part of the brain that makes reasoned judgments about the choices a person makes and kids just don’t have it. That is why they need parents and parent’s that are willing to spy on their cell phones.
