Common Problems You Encounter Setting Up A Home Wireless Printer

The most obvious benefit of having a wireless printer at home is the convenience of not having to place the printer next to your computer. This is a great convenience if you need to save on space and you only have a small table available for your computer. There is also no need to worry about snaking wires to connect your computers to your printer. At the same time, if you have two or three computers at home, a wireless printer setup is most convenient.

Just be sure to install your printer software on all your computers in the wireless network so you can print from all the computers. Generally, wireless printers are easy to share and install and can be placed anywhere in the house within reasonable range of the Wi-Fi signal.

Below are some wireless printer problem setups that you may encounter and how to resolve them:

Loss of wireless signal due to plaster walls, fireplaces, and built-in appliances – don’t place your printer with these things in between the line of signal.

Disruption of wireless signal due to cordless phones, microwaves, and garage door openers – remove these things between the lines of signal.

“Access is Denied” error when trying to print to a shared printer on the home network – this error occurs when attempting to print from a computer to another computer and both have different operating systems, and are incompatible with the printer.

A printer can’t be added during setup because it’s not found in the Add Printer Wizard – when the printer name can’t be detected, you can add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer.

Can’t find a printer to add in the Network folder – almost the same problem as above, only this time, check first to see if the network is working properly. If it is, try changing the name of the workgroup or create a new workgroup, then join in the new one.

Can’t change the network printer properties – simply log in as administrator and gain permission to change the properties.

Can’t print to a network printer – you can attempt the following options:

• View the status of your home network.

• Identify and resolve home network problems.

• Troubleshoot file and printer sharing.

• Check if printer drivers are compatible with the computer operating system.

If everything else fails and you still can’t print from your network printer, perhaps it’s time to call a professional computer support company that specializes in wireless printer problem setups and troubleshooting.
