Sharepoint Language Packs

Sharepoint Language Packs

Microsoft SharePoint is part of Microsoft Office. It was introduced back in 2001 and last year it received its latest update. It is mostly used by organizations who use it as a secure place to store, organize, share and access information from almost any device with a web browser. So, with SharePoint you can create websites which can be used by your employees.

You can use SharePoint for uploading files to SkyDrive so you can access them from anywhere, open a document, work with your co-workers on the same document, at the same time, share documents with your colleagues or people outside your organization, create a team site, share information with your organization etc.

So far SharePoint sounds pretty useful right? But today we are going to speak about the SharePoint Language Packs as well. It is great for non-English organizations and businesses to have SharePoint in their own language, but it is even greater to make SharePoint available in multiple languages. Microsoft took care of it and has released its language support packs.

In the latest 2013 version of SharePoint 43 language packs are available to download.

Why do you need these language packs?

SharePoint Language Packs are needed if your organization is multinational and your server supports users from different locations. You can install these language packs, which contain language-specific site templates, on servers. That is how you will make your sites multilingual, without installing SharePoint on different languages again and again. However, note that there aren’t batches of language packs, you need to install every desired language pack separately.

If you are installing the French version of SharePoint then the default language for all sites, site collections, and web pages would be in French. If you want to create sites, site collections, or web pages in some other language, then you have to install the language pack for that specific language. You are not limited to the number of language packs you can install, so you can make your sites available in many languages.

Also, very important parts of the language packs are the language IDs. The language ID determines the language that is used to display and interpret text that is on the site or site collection.

The downloading and installing of the language packs is a relatively easy processes. All you need to do is follow the instructions from Microsoft. However, please note that if in any case you are uninstalling SharePoint 2013, you must uninstall all Language Packs as well.

The benefits of the Language Packs are huge, it will make your organization more professional and the employees will work in more effective and satisfactory work environment.
